Life Lessons at the Bathroom Mirror of 2020

Vision.

Did you ever notice how long it takes to actually see the Vision? Have you ever considered transferring the knowledge in life that you have been given and applying it to every arena of your life?

Let’s take looking in the mirror.

Looking at yourself in the mirror takes a consorted effort. Sure we’ve grown accustomed to seeing our reflection multiple times a day but how long has it been since you really saw yourself? Looking deeper. The color of your face? The outline of your shape? The subtleties, the hairstyle, the grooming? Since the last time you remember actually noticing yourself in the mirror — what did you look like and how are you now different?

Was your hair long? Was it short? How has the color changed, the texture? Can you see how the changes in weight has changed you? When was the last time you took time out for your personal hygiene and health? How is your makeup, face wash, FACE Lotion… it still exists. Can you still see that person?

Value.

Now, if we look a little deeper… can we remember what our Values were? Do we remember what drove us to accomplishing our Goals? Have you held fast to those principles that you created for yourself? What was your life purpose back then?

For me it been probably 15–20 years, since I saw myself — or took the time to. But on this particular morning, I stopped to notice.

I notice my surroundings. I see myself. I see my imperfections. I don’t remember having any imperfections the last time I stopped to notice myself. I think I might have some age spots on my face, seeing them on my face I wonder if I am remembering them correctly. I’m not ready to be that ‘old’.

To do or not to do… my makeup. You see, I don’t really want to exert the time or effort doing this — I need that 30-minutes elsewhere in my life. You see I’ve become accustomed to my routine, and adding 30 minutes to my day causes disruption in that routine. But if I want to change some things to redirect my course, then I have to sacrifice some things, be uncomfortable.

So when I look in the mirror and see the grey roots appearing, I see a less than perfect shape, I see some things with myself that I would like to change. I have to be willing to be uncomfortable. I have to be willing to make some sacrifices in order to re-navigate towards where I’m going, I have appeared to have gotten off course in more than one arena of my life.

Illumination.

the ah-ha moment comes when you can make sense of the patterns in your behavior, resulted from the consequences of your decisions… You can see how eating a bag of potato chips every week for the last 20 years may have played a significant role in having gained so much weight… when you can subjectively see how all decisions lead to the same place. Then you get the correct decision, you realize in all things there actually is a CORRECT decision and these decisions is what will get you to a place of enlightenment quicker.

So I asked myself, what have I been doing that has been more important than taking time to ensure I stay on the correct course towards my destiny? As I continued to reflect on my life — I started to notice patterns. The patters seemed random at times but in closer inspection, I connected with my Destiny. I realized that my Life is but a series of consequences of every decision - which is focused on 3 areas:

  1. Mental stability,

  2. Emotional responses,

  3. Experience levels

The more I meditated on this, the more I started to notice patterns. The patterns I started to see, started to give me a new perspective.

As I looked in the mirror, I noticed how it wasn’t time that changed me, it was the lessons that time provided me, that changed me.

What I looked like 20 years ago, and how I felt, thought and acted were quite different too. We’ve been conditioned to see where people are, not what they have been through.

Thirty minutes later, I look into that mirror with a plan to change the things in my control, and with gratitude appreciating the things I’ve been through. I see the Destiny on my life, I’m still not sure how I’m getting there — but I’ll weigh out decisions based on if they align with my Values or not. And I’ll be strong to walk away when they don’t.

For me the path is clear. And each day I’ve got up and looked in the mirror since, I’ve spoke my gratitude for what I’ve been through, and for clarity on decisions that will keep me inline with my Purpose. We either learn the lessons and move forward, or stay until we do. (Great article on your Promised Land)
